Lakland 55-02 Major Mod. Delano Hybrids with U-Retro Deluxe Preamp 5 18V

Hi folks,
I intend to take my bass into major modifications. Reason being due to faulty LH-3 preamp. Its has 3 years with this good axe and perhaps its time for a change in pickups&preamp electronics. I'm not an expert on such stuffs which regards to modifications on electronics. Am looking forward for your opinions regarding this topic.

I have been eyeing on the DELANO (MM) HYBRID pickups and JC5AL (Jazz single coil) , readed the description from their main page and it seems pretty interesting and unique right there for the HYBRID pickups. It would be good dicuss about the tonality of this particular pickup if any of you guys has it installed on your bass, Hope you wouldn't mind sharing because i can't find any audio clips of this pickup and its very hard to judge and decide while comparing with the nordstrands, bartolini pickups etc

Along with the JOHN EAST U-Retro 5 knob deluxe preamp. The main purpose of getting this preamp is actually for the "BRIGHT" switch, "PASSIVE KNOB" for different purpose and the typical mid freq selector knob/toggle that most preamp offers. I personally find that the LH-3 dipswitch has limited my choice of selection on the mid freq for its versatality on stage of course it still sounds awesome. No offence to folks who are in love with the LH system

Tonal wise i'm looking into a dark tone with punchy low mids and sweet and smooth highs. Mainly for Jazz, Fusion, Funk, Soul.

Definitely, there are pickups that has already suit my preferences of what i'm looking into. Am open to any recommendations and would be please that you could name out them so that i source out information about it.

So who's gonna give a good head start for this thread?!

Don't forget to check FAQ page of the Hybrid pickup system:
http://www.delano.de/the_hybrid_pickup_system.html

it says:
The DELANO "The Hybrid" pickup is not to be compared with normal humbucking pickups, which can be switched to single coil, parallel or serial modes. Even though The Hybrid is an magnetic pickup with different coil-settings, it obtains its superior ability to produce the authentic sound styles by a much more complex pickup-internal wiring and the external The Hybrid switching management. A genuine rendition is only possible through the exact usage of our wiring schematics, the 12 pin toggle switch and our specially designed two level treble pot. Any other installation will corrupt this system and is not able to deliver the "real thing".

I'm going to immediately recommend you some Bartolini pickups. They'll give u that specific sound you just described!
