Lakland 55-02 Pickup Height

I was wondering, whats the factory or recommended pickup height for the Lakland 55-02.

This is one of my basses that I have never been fully satisfied with.
They day I got it here, it lacked attack, so my uncle raised the pickups very high, wich obviusly improved some things.

Years later, I still find the sound of the bass lacking. Of course it has a very sweet midrange, and the lows seem deep, but.. I dont know, It just never felt right unless I use it in the studio or with headphones.

The years have passed, and now I do great setups, etc etc.

Yesterday I was resetting the pickup height of my bass again, and actually lowered them completely. (Boosted the gain on the trim pot), and the bass was more forgiving to bad technique , and sounded more fuller. Less attack, less high midrange, but fuller.

Im not a Bartolini fan anymore. Im more into EMGs and Duncans but was wondering what was the recommended height for this pickups.

Im still wondering what to do with it... Defret it and get a singing tone or change pickups and make it another rockstar, or simply sell it. What do you think?

Lakland will install their new pups and preamp for ~$400 US. Or, you can get the SD Basslines, which Lakland also fit from the factory.
Both are more aggresive, which sounds what you're looking for.
Go to the Lakland website, and email thier customer service, they're very helpful with stuff like this.

Hey All!

Lakland 4-94/4402/55-94/5502 pickup heights with Bartolini and Lakland LH 3.From DAN!

MM - E/B=10/64(4mm) G=7/64(3mm)
J - E/B=11/64(4.5mm) G=9/64(3.5mm)

And when measuring donīt press the string down to fingerboard(last/12th)!
Just measure from top of pickup to bottom of string.

And check out other models pickup heights file down there!...
