Lakland 5502 upgrade: basslines, or lakland pups?

I love my Bartolini equipped 5502, solo'd.
Come gig time, it seems "too clean" to really blow thru a live mix like a G&L 2500, or Lakland 5501.
So, I think it's time to try some different pups to get some more "bark and grind."
The question: Basslines and the pre that's in it, or Laklands new in house pups and preamp?

Any of you who have a/b'd any of this, or done the upgrade, I'd like to hear your thoughts, please.

I've heard a LOT of good things about the new Laklands and heard a few clips. Honestly...not a HUGE difference but that's what my vote's based on.

However...if you're going to get Duncan's you ought to put a Duncan preamp in!

I really enjoyed the warmth of the new lakland pickup when I got to try it at the NY GTG last year , barts are just a bit to transparent for me.

The Lakland pickups/electronics are awesome. I have no problems cutting through on the band. The only complaint I got while playing that bass was "turn that bass down" from the bar owner at the last gig.
