Lakland 5560 w Alleva Coppolo preamp or EMG JVX

Sign in to disble this ad
Im getting a lakland 55-60 soon, and i cant seem to decide what to do with it. I like the Alleva Copollo tone but i also love the tone of the JVX pickups. I was also thinking of matching the alleva coppolo pickups with the preamp. Any suggestions?

an ac pre with pickups other than the pickups he uses in his basses will sound like any other pre and wont sound like an ac. ive done it. his aftermarket set of pickups looks like theyre wound different than whats going in his basses based of his published dcr.

i have a friend who has the AC pre in a pedal... it is awesome with any bass! as i've become a bigger fan of passive basses, i like that it is external and switchable too.

if i remember the deal with him, the pedals never are really in stock. if you offer him the money and youre serious, he'll make it. if youre stuck on that pre, keep an eye out for a used onboard one and mount it in a hammond enclosure. i have an old nyc outboard pre and bought an onboard and put it in an enclosure. thats all he's doing with it as well as his pedal doesnt have a di or anything.

he put the numbers on the sets he was selling on his site. the 4 string set was 6k range and the 5 string set was in the 7k range iirc. a tb'r gutted his coppolo lg5 and the pickups that were in the bass were 10k.

Going from 7 to 10 is a big jump for a slightly extra length of wire.

thats why im saying what he puts in his basses is different than what he sells as replacement sets. those low wind pickups he sells wouldnt give his basses that old school sound theyre known for matched with a pre.
