Lakland - Active/Barto + Passive Villex?!?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, i really prefer the passive tone of my Lakland 55-94, but the Active mode is really useful...

i've reversed my Push-pull knob Volume to get the passive mode down to have less chance to active my pre-amp by mistake if it was like on the original setting...

now, i was asking myself, without adding any other knob on it, is it possible to have the Bartolini system like it is now, and when switching to the passive mode, to have the Villex -Vol, Tone, Mid - plugged in..

like my treble would become a Tone, and the Mid become the "passive-mid-boost-by-Villex"... is it clear?

i'll write to Villex i'll let you know if i have any answer...

Tell me of you have some idea... thanks

PO

I remember the Jaquo guy saying that Villex can sound good with an active pre, as long as they are wired to their special mid-tone knob.

Why not have William make you some custom pickups and then use an Active 2-band EQ (like the Aguilar OBP-1) with his mid control? I believe William has some other ideas he's working on as well. Good luck.

There's the answer i got.. seems fun but there's part i don't totally understand.. (yeah... i'm French-canadian)

" Hi PO,
Here is idea !!
Put Villex system with Villex mid and high. Add bass control from your active preamp.
Hide active mid and high controls inside control cavity and use them like preset. You can find
some small trimmer pots if there is not enough room inside.
This way switching will be easy to do with double pole double throw switch.
On Passive mode.
You will have 100% pore Villex system.
On Active Mode.
You can preset as much mids and highs as you want and Villex passive mids and highs
will control them + and - Bass will be original active.

if i get it, Passive, i'll have a Vol, Tone (that he calls high) and Mid..
and Active, i'll have Vol, High and Mid, preset from other hided knob inside my bass, and bass like usual from my pre-amp... that's it??

I still suggest using the Villex system with his mids and a tone (passive treble roll-off) and adding in the Aguilar OBP-1 with a bypass switch. This way you can have the Bass and Treble on the face of the instrument but bypass them when you don't want them. The treble boost is not the same as the passive tone, so you can have both. The mid control and tone will function in active or passive, and then you can boost lows and highs in active....in combination with Villex's mids, that's essentially a 3-band EQ with tone, kind of like a Sadowsky setup + the Villex mid control.
