Is this Lakland Duck Dunn wired right?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know there isnt a lot a P bass but im just about to put a Fralin in to replace the Hanson and this is what it looks like at the moment.
Im confident in doing it but not really experienced in all this.
My last DD was wired slightly different so thats why im asking.
It does seem to work ok though.

If someone could just have a quick look that would be great.

Thanks.

Ok,. i guess this is a bit of a non thread as i just changed the pup over and all is fine.

And am i right in thinking the lug at the bottom of the volume pot (that at the moment doesn't have anything attached to it) can also be used for the hot wire, rather than using the middle lug as in the pic?

It was over two years ago that you changed pups so apologies for dredging up an old thread. However, would you mind please describing the differences between the two pickups in your bass? I'm considering doing the same swap in my Duck Dunn. The current Hanson setup in my bass gives a very punchy and controlled bottom end but somewhat shrill highs. The mids are in there somewhere but seem a little overwhelmed. I'd like them to reveal themselves and I wonder whether Fralins will do it.

Thanks.

Yes.
The way you have it, the pot only varies output impedance by placing a resistive load parallel to everything. The traditional way to wire a volume pot is with the first terminal as the input, to keep a constant resistive load against the pickup coils, and allow the pot to act as a voltage divider, adding series resistance in addition to decreasing parallel resistance, as the control is turned down.

Thanks Line6man. ive done a few since this thread (i think you've help me with some of that as well).

Matthew. Ive replied to your PM, but just wanted to say i felt the same about the Hanson as you. The Fralin didn't sound too different but did make the tone a bit smoother up top IIR.
