Lakland JO Jazz and Nordstrand pickups (fat stack / P bass)...

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone routed out a Lakland (specifically a Lakland JO) to drop in a set of Fat Stack pickups or a P bass at the neck? Seems like that might be drastic, but the new Skyline JO Jazz are cheaper than a parts bass (even with a pickup swap).

anyone?

anyone?

Beuller?

I know that some talkbasser did put a P pickup on a Lakland JO. As far as I remember he/she had it done in Lakland factory. I don't remember who/when though. I saved the pics. If he/she doesn't show up, drop me a PM and I'll e-mail them to you.

I had a similar thought. Do you like it? Is it a worth upgrade in your opinion/ear?

Btw, your bass is classy! Very nice look.

Thanks. Its the nicest looking bass ive ever owned IMHO.

But also the worst sounding. I must be honest and say i never liked it from the start.
Im not a Jazz bass guy but i do like the tone i get from my HW1. The DJ5 never sounded as nice as that. Plus, i missed my Fender P5 so thought i would get the P tone back without getting rid of the DJ5.
For me it just never worked out. It was a great tone and i had more compliments in the 4 months i had it than i have in the 6 years ive been playing but i just felt it didn't growl and punch enough.
The DJ5 does seem to have a dark, deep tone to my ears and no matter what pup i had i could still hear this.

I sold the DJ5 earlier this year and the buyer said it has a great P tone so i guess its just a personal thing.

Hm that's pretty interesting. I am "lacking" the growl and punch of my JO4 aswell, but i like it for what it is: a very smooth sounding, hightly comfortable playable instrument. Anyway i think of changing something... pickups/preamp ...i did not made up my mind yet.

Bump.

Anyone got his/her experiences to share regarding NS FatStacks, BigSingles or SplitSingles in a Lakland JO ?
