Question Lakland Joe Osborn hum/single coils

Sign in to disble this ad
I am contemplating replacing the single coil Lakland pickup that is currently in my JO 4 string.
I like the tone and the output, however I cant stand that hum I am getting.
Any suggestions for a humbucker that would fit in the routing and would provide a similar tone?

Maybe I wouldnt even need new humbuckers in there, rather just a good shielding job. I havent even taken the plate off to see what it looks like yet.
Any one run into this issue with their Joe Osborn/Darryl Jones Jazz and have any success stories?

Thanks!

I had great success on my JO5 as well as my former DJ5 with using copper shielding. Now it's WAY quieter. I say try that first.

Thanks for the feedback - Of course I noticed the big "Jazz Shielding" sticky just after I posted. I will try that; I'm surprised that proper shielding doesnt come standard on all single coiled bass installs. Well, another fun project to work through right?

Anyone shield and still find too much hum?

AFAIK Lakland does that to retain vintage specs.
