A little xtra crunch ?

I love the tones of my Jazz basses. For my next purchase I am considering modifying a Jazz bass slightly I am looking for a more crunchy tone akin to say a Music Man / J Berlin's old sound from back in the Bruford days.
I do not want to change anything on the basses I have already. Hence the reason for another J bass.
Have often wondered about putting a fat humbucker or similar style pickup at the bridge. The neck p/u has always been my optional pickup to achieve P bass tones as needed But I generally find myself at least 60/40 to the bridge p/u for what my old guitarist once described as "that chalky sound".

Now most of you may say why not just buy a Music Man etc Well the Jazz bass is the perfect fit physically for me: neck width at the nut, string spacing all the way to the bridge, offset waist cutaway with that comfortable slope for the right forearm( on a right handed) to rest on etc etc
.
Your suggestions ???
