I have read so much on here about pup and still stuck.
So I want to hear from the MM jazz bass players. Keep the stock preamp and change the pups or change them all? I'm leaning toward barts....what did you guys do and what do you think. I'm after warm tone for finger and slap. I play in a cover band so everything from rock to motown is the style I play.
thx

I haven't modded my MM4 yet, but the main reason people change the PUPs is the originals are noisy. I have a MIA JBass and put Nordy's on it to get the sound your are talking about and will probably do the same on my MM4. The pre-amp isn't too bad on the MM4, but I will probably swap it for a Sadowsky with VTC. I have that on the same MIA JBass and love it. I have talked to others who have done the same swaps I am talking about and say the MM$ with the ash/maple sounds great with those mod's.

Marcus no longer takes his original bass on the road with him and had Fender Custom Shop make him a couple clones. They have Bart pre-amps and I'm not sure about the PUPs could be Custum Shop PUPs.

I'll check into that, now....what about the onboard preamp? I really don't use is that much, 98% I play in passive mode......leave it or upgrade as well?

I put Nords and an Aguilar OBP-1 in mine. It was awesome when I had it. The preamp was probably the biggest factor in getting an awesome sound.

I love my MM, very light, great playing bass. I had the pickups, electronics and badass removed. Replaced with vol vol tone tone bypass, Fender strings thru bridge, and Jason Lollar single coils. I play through an Aguilar db 924 outboard pre. I love the Aguilar and the Lollars. The Lollar pickups are simply amazing. maybe check those out...
