Marcus Retro Installation?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I just bought a john east marcus retro preamp to replace the original in my marcus miller jazz bass (4 string). I have a couple of questions regarding installation. Firstly, how do I tell which pickup lead is hot and which is cold? Secondly, how do i get the battery clip to fit in the battery routing on the bass? Do i have to desolder what's already installed? Pull the battery lead out of the circuit board? If anybody's installed a Marcus retro, preferably the four string, I'd love your input.

Anyone? I'd really appreciate it. I'm itching to install the preamp properly!

hi mate. http://www.east-uk.com/marcusretro01.pdf I assume that your pickup wires are black and white (mine are)? I followed the wiring colours in the installation diagram. Easy enough to confirm in terms of output. in terms of battery, i seem to remember having to desolder the original to get the old pre off and then reattach when the East went in, I think I actually used the one provided by John. The hole between cavities is too small to allow the clip to fit through.

Thanks. I ended up installing it correctly. I just snipped the battery leads, resoldered them together, and used heat shrink tubing to seal everything up.
