Master volume wired right before output jack?

Is it possible to wire a 'master volume' knob that comes between the tone pot and the output jack in a jazz bass?

ie. volume/volume/tone/master vol/output jack

It's certainly possible, the only thing to worry about is the increased loading on the pickups, which will cut some highs. You can minimize this by getting the largest resistance pot available, maybe 1Meg.

I did this. Seemed to work just fine. My active pre and a noise gate built in, so I ended up swapping back to rid the hum.
