Maybe I'm Confused With What Kind Of Pickups I Want. Help?

Hey guys, so I've been working on a modified Jazz bass project since last summer. I put it together from various parts I've collected. The first pickups I put in there were a set of 2009 American Jazz pickups. I swapped them out because they were too thin sounding for me. Next was a set of Dimarzio Ultra Jazz. I swapped those out because they sounded too compressed, lacked growl, and easily got lost in the band mix. Now I have a set of Delano JMVC 4FE/M2 pickups in there. Really loud, powerful pickups but they're are really hifi sounding. I guess I'm looking for a set of pickups that have lots of growl to them, not so much of a compressed tone, and a little warmer. I'm not really sure if I'm looking for a vintage set or more modern, maybe because I really don't know the difference.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUNtPd1xA7w. I'd really love to get this tone (Don't judge me because I liked the movie!), but I'm pretty sure that's a P bass and Ampeg rig. It would be perfect if I could get that tone from a jazz bass. I'm running a GK 700RBII head with a 210 cab and I also have a Fender Rumble 100 amp. Any help? I'm spending way too much money trying to find what I want. I checked out the sticky jazz pickups thread and came to Fralins (I heard they have bad hum though), SD Antiquity II, SD Basslines quarter pounders.

I've heard nothing but great things about SD Basslines 1/4 Pounders, might want to try them out?

I had a Jazz that I used S.D. Classic Jazz Stacks in and the tone was great for what I was playing (variety of classic Rock, Funk to Country)... I always thought a Hot Stack in the bridge position and a Classic Stack in the neck position would make a great combo......YMMV
