I put the TI low-B back on because I didn't care for the tone of the Sadowsky. What I noticed, is that unplugged, the low-B sounds clear. It's not quite as loud as the other strings given the same picking dynamic, but it's clear. Amplified, it's muddy. And if I up the treble, it doesn't so much get clearer as the other strings get too bright.
My setup is a Jackson AG5 (35" scale) with Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups into a Sansamp BDDI. FWIW, the pole pieces were too wide. At the neck, the B and G go straight over the inner pole pieces. At the bridge, they were barely over the inner pole pieces... so I installed a second neck pickup in the bridge. Now they go over the outer edge of the inner pole pieces, which I think
should be fine.
I'm wondering if a bar magnet would be better than pole pieces, since I can't seem to find 5-string pickups with pole pieces that are narrow enough.
Then again, it could be something else.
