MEC mid-control does nothing/not working, output seemingly unaffected

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys - quick question for those more than I in the elevtronics dept. I recently bought a Streamer Stage II that sounds phenomenal, but the mid-control does absolutely nothing. No cut, no boost... turning the knob has zero affect on the sound. The pot itself is a 100K pot (diagram here: http://www.warwickbass.com/media/man...024%20rev2.pdf) and as best I can tell everything is installed and wired correctly.

If the pot went bad or just wasn't wired in, wouldn't it affect the tone somehow? I do find it interesting that the output is the lowest of any Warwick bass I've ever owned, so perhaps that is related. Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated Thanks!

Do the other knobs do anything? Are you sure you're not running it in passive mode?

Positive - not in passive mode, though the passive/active switch works fine. The fader and volume knobs also work, and the bass and treble knobs are performing as expected from a Warwick pre... rumble and shriek

Does sound like the mid pot either isnt connected or that something wrong with the midrange stage of the preamp. Yes the lower then prev warwicks output could indicate preamp problem imo. Hope ya get it fixed fairly easy.

So, funny story...

After using my Streamer today as a pure recording signal, I decided to give the knob a twirl. Lo and behold, it works just fine - it's just friggin' near imperceptible Now that I've picked up on it I can hear it, but overall the tonal range of this MEC pre is WAY less than the range of the MEC pres in my old Corvettes. Perhaps a battery change is in order.
