MFD equivalent Jazz pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass, and I'm wanting hotter pickups. I currently have a G&L SB-2, which has the MFD P style pickup. That's a very hot passive pickup. Is there a jazz equivalent to this one?

I've not heard it/them, but have read that GFS (w.store.guitarfetish.com) pups match up quite well and have a good sound to boot.

The only direct experience I've had was trying to find a 5-string P pup to match up to a G&L 2500 pup. It had to be custom made.

The new SB-2's come with a MFD single. However, the MFD single has nowhere near the output of the humbuckers. If you want a direct replacement that is hotter, you should look at the Dimarzio model J's. The pickups in the Geddy are custom shop 60's pickups and are one of the better sounding jazz pickups. I would think twice before changing them out.

that is the right answer. i'd rather get an external preamp before changing the pickups if i just wanted a hotter signal.
