MFD Pickups work well with other preamps?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey bass brethren, I scored a set of G&L MFD pickups, but no preamp. I plan on putting this pair in an old Jazz body I have (nice ash!) and was wondering, before I get a schematic and rip off the G&L design (for the most part) has anyone had any good success with these super hot pups going into another readily available Preamp like a Bart or Audere or J-Retro or something? I imagine these preamps have gain trim pots for just such a thing, yes?

Just bouncing around thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Which model MFD's ?

I've done the Audere and MFD Humbucker from the L series combination and I thought it was stellar. I'll do another of those one day.

If you're talking the split P and J style from the SB 1/2, LB100 or the J style from the JB - time to move along to something new in my book (not necessarily your book I understand).

My apologies, yes, dual humbuckers. I want it to seriously shake the Earth, but in a growly, yet controlled manner.

Thanks!!!!
