Thumbs down Microphonic P'ups?

I told a fellow TB'er that I'd get them changed for the ones he sold me, but I was lazy and didn't do it yet.

What I have is that '99 P-Affinity Squire that has a little work under the hood and pretty soon I'll put the new p'ups in, I swear, so this is just a learning thing right now to me.

I was doing some groove background for a studio session last night and I think they were using a lot of HIs in the DI mix, although I never heard it from the bass amp I was listening to and playing for my own cues.

OK - I heard the first booth playback and I swear I never made all that noise! I didn't!

I didn't like the sounds that were coming out of my bass through their monitors, and even though I thought it sounded great in the room where I was playing - but, well, I guess it didn't.

I tried tapping on the p'ups and they seemed quiet on my end through the stack, but the booth said they were 'microphonic'.

Can there be two totally different sounds coming from them? I don't think so. I feel the mix was just too HI-toned on their end and they were running me too HI-hot.

I switched to my new J bass and it went the rest of the night just great.

Today I put that P back on MY amps and it still sounded great!!!

I'll swap out to the new p'ups ASAP anyway - but does this type of sound problem come up from my bad p'ups or THE BOOTH'S tone set-up?
