mid cut frequency

Sign in to disble this ad
i have built a passive mid cut for my bass with emg's. althouth it gets me in the ballpark it seems to rob a little too much of my low-mids. it's center freq is about 600hz.

my question is at what freq do you guys like to cut the mids? thats if you are a mid cut type of player.

I can't really help since I need the mids when playing with up to three guitars. Just interested in seeing where people do cut their mids.

i do like the mids boosted for a modern sound but like them a little lower for the old school sounds. i boost the mids on the amp and want to be able to cut them some with out messing with the amp settings.

i figured with number of post about onboard preamps someone would use them to cut the mids.

so is everyone boosting the mids only?

I used to cut the mids because it sounded right at home. But after years of frustration of not sitting in the mix right, I realized that the mids in the context of a band are essential. The highs and lows are the dressing and the shape of the sound (not unessential), and the mids are the pitch, the punch, the body.

Depends on amplification. Sometimes I like cutting around 400-600Hz to make sound clearer, sometimes boosting around 2..3K (that's almost highs), for more cut through. The best sound IMO is with EQ set flat - I play through Hi-Fi headphones at home, and it's a pleasure to listen.
