Mid Knob on Fender P-Bass question..

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok my mid knob on my 2007 fender p bass deluxe when i move it around...

It seems to get a normal bass tone at around 70% ...

The problem is this mid knob really effects the overall volume dramatically!

If i have the mids turned down the volume is SO much lower than the mids turned all the way up..

This volume difference is pretty ridiculous...

I dont know if this could be the way its supposed to be..

I had the knob replaced a few years ago ... maybe the guy messed up?

I just had to replace the mids knobs on my Fender Deluxe Jazz so I'm up to speed on what you are talking about!

No it's normal! The reason is that your Mid EQ is either giving lots of dBs of boost or cut right to the frequencies where the ear is most sensitive! So as you boost or cut mids you are boosting or cutting what your ear perceives as most of the "sound". Hence to "dial in" a tone you not only need to play with the EQ knobs but also the volume. I've noticed that sometimes even changing the volume with NO change in EQ will fool your ears into thinking the tone has changed. So when dialing-in a tone be sure to adjust volume to keep the sound at the same level.

I looked at this issue for a player in terms of measurements, and the mid EQ curve covers a very broad spectrum, with significant effect from the higher bass region all the way up to lower treble.

It's obviously designed this way, and does have a big effect on the overall level.

My mid kob on my Deluxe P pooped out on me, started acting very erratic.

It's kind of a challange to get a replacement.

You need to call Fender for the exact part number, then find a dealer who will order it for you. Fender will not sell parts direct.
