Midi cable with power

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a cable to power a midi pedal and carry the midi signal. Basically I want a 7 conductor cable with a 5 pin midi plug on each end and a plug for powering the midi peddle on one end and a plug for attaching a power supply to the other. Can this be done or is it not a good idea to run power and signal in the same cable?

They make 7 pin MIDI cables for just that, but the unit powering the MIDI pedal has to supply the power (ie. a MIDI pedal controlling a processor- the processor would supply the power down pins 6&7 to the pedal)

Rocktron makes a 7 pin midi cable for that reason, But you have to use it with their all acess pedle. Witch is more money than i want to spend ($750). Im using an old ART midi pedle with a Vudoo valve online. I emailed rocktron to see if their cable would work for what i wanted but they never returned my email.

The MIDI standard uses only 3 conductor for the MIDI signal ; pins 2-4-5.
Pins 1-3 are not used.
