Might be buyin some new pickups, advice?

Yo, I literally know nothing about the pickup world , outside of like EMG. I'm considering buyin a Peavey Grind, and poppin some other P-ups in, something clean. I really don't care for the gritty sound it comes with, and want something a bit more clean, and poppy. I do a lot of slap, with some jazzy pick and finger style to boot. Any recommendations? I'd like to keep things around a hundo. Thanks in advance!

I think you'll be hard pressed to find two pickups for $100 that are any better than the stock pickups. Also, Peavey is famous for using odd size pickup covers so popular replacements like EMG and Bartolini sometimes won't fit without modification or custom covers.

Based on your description it seems you would favor different pickups and an active setup for clean, hi-fi sound (EMGs would fit the bill nicely). Unfortunately to convert the Grind to active would require two pickups, an EQ circuit and a a battery box if there's no room for a 9V or two in the control cavity (I always recommend wiring the preamp 18V for the added headroom). That would cost closer to $400 which essentially equals the cost of the bass. If you really like the Grind then there's nothing wrong with spending the money on an electronics overhaul. Guitar players do it all the time.

Or you can look for a bass that doesn't require such extensive modifications.
