Mighty Mite MMFR-4 wiring problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm doing a low-buck build for a friend, and I got this pickup off of ebay:
http://www.mightymite.com/pickups/bass/humb/index.html

What I didn't pay attention is that this isn't like a standard MM or Seymour Duncan in that it only has one hot and ground lead. So, I can't do any tone shaping or configuration switching with it.

I guess my options are:
1. Lump it and use tone controls like on a P-bass.
2. Add another pickup for tonal versatility (nice, but adds cost).
3. Get a different MM pickup that will allow the tone shaping/switching I wanted (adds time and cost).

Any suggestions or thoughts along these lines? Any option I haven't thought about?

Well, if you want, I have an unneeded P pickup out of my old Yamaha RBX. It's nothing special, but it does have a nice smooth P sound, and if you put the MM near the bridge, this will provide a good deal of versatility.

I'll send it to you for free, if you want - PM me.

Based in the illustration in your link, the MM pickup appears to be splittable. You just need to cut the wire that bridges the two coils. Or am i missing something that you can see with the pup in hand?

I'll look again, but I believe that the wire that bridges the two halves together is actually embedded in the epoxy.
