Mike Pope Flexcore W/ EMG HZ's

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am getting ready to drop in a Flexcore preamp in my spector legend 5 and I am a little worried that it won't be compatible with the EMG HZ pickups. Are they passive only? Or will they work with the active circuit?

Also, as I look at the pickups, i see 4 wires, a red, green, black and white connected together, and an exposed braided wire.I have no idea which wire is which.

I hope somebody can help me out!

Thanks.

All passive pickups work with preamps. They will work fine.

ok. Thanks. That's good to hear.

What about all those wires? I know a standard jazz pickup usually has just a black and white wire, pretty simple.

But these are a little more complicated, and I cannot find any info on them.

Where did you look?

That diagram is for the soap bars, but it's the same for all of them.

For series operation, connect the black and wire wires together, solder them, and tape that connection off, green is ground, red is hot. The bare wire goes to ground.

You can also follow the DiMarzio wiring if you wanted to add series/parallel switches, since EMG uses the same color codes.
