Question Millennium: passive to active pickups?

Sign in to disble this ad
HI, I'm new here... and I thought id ask for opinions on what I should do. I have a Peavey Millennium BXP 5 string bass right now. I like the feel and look of it. It has a fairly straight neck and good action... I'm not sure how much I like the pickups though. They sound fine playing with a band, but they are a bit dull for slap and pop or just messing arround. So here are some options I was thinking of:

1: Sell my old bass, and buy the same bass w/ active electronics (AC BXP) upgrade cost: $100

2: Buy a new set of active pickups. (EMG's maybe?) cost:???

3: Buy a pickup set pulled from a Cirrus on ebay. cost: $50ish

My dad has a Ibanez BRB 5 string, and I really like the sound of its pickups... I would like to achive a similar tone...But I also want a versatile tone because I play all kinds of different styles.

keep what you have and save for a used usa Millenium or an older Gbass or a used cirrus

Specifically, what is better about the USA version? I also should mention that I can get new stuff half priced from peavey...so thats why id lean towards a active bxp... Also, why not put on new pickups? The ibanez I liked had bartaloni Mk1-5's... would it sound good if I put those on mine?

I'm in the exact same boat, I know what you mean with the pickups. Just kinda dull. Subscribed, and bump!
