MIM Jazz4 replacements - What's the Scoop ?

Been digging through the mega Jazz pup thread because I want to replace the pups in my Jazz 4 MIM passive bass. I came across a post that stated, prior to 2006, the pups in MIM jazz 4 basses were a different size than standard Fender jazz 4 pups, and that, actually there was no difference between neck and bridge. My problem is, I can't tell what year my MIM bass was made because the neck has been replaced with a new MIM neck. I measured the pups on my MIA Jazz, and they are the same length as the ones on the MIM jazz, so can I assume that any brand of standard Jazz replacement pups will fit ?

If the neck and bridge are the same size, then you'll have to buy two of those. If they're different sizes, chances are a pre-packaged set will fit.

So it's basically buy two neck pups or two bridge pups? How do you tell the difference ?

I think so. If, on your MIM, the bridge pickup is longer than the neck p'up, you'll be fine with any replacement set.

if your MIA jazz have neck & bridge pups measuring the same size as the ones on the MIM then they cannot be the same size.....

All MIA : bridge longer than neck
All recent MIM : same as MIA
older MIM : bridge & neck the same size.

Thanks for the replies. The bridge pickups on the MIM are longer than the neck, as are the ones on my MIA, in fact, measure almost exactly, so I should be good to get a replacement set. Any suggestions ? The ones that are on there now, have raised pole pieces on the A and D string, and I want to replace them with ones that have even across the pickup pole pieces. You can really hear a difference in volume, especially on the E string. The A and D string just jump out at you.

The best way to tell for sure is to measure yours and then cross-reference. Once you settle on the pickup you're going to buy, then you can verify the size before you purchase.
