Noise problems with pasive Lindy Fralin pups

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

Recently i bought a Hartke 2.5 XL to combine with my 15' cab. The amp is an Markbass LMK.

Problem: the harsh when I plug the Bass with the Fralin pups is incredible . No problems with active basses.

Do you know some 'easy' solution ...
Yeahhh, I can buy the hartke 2.5 and go for another more quality 2x10 cab but, I'm trying to save it because i recently bought it.

Any idea ???

Thanks and best regards

Did you check the ground connection on your Lindy equipped bass? I don't think this is related to Lindys, most probably some cable is loose in your bass.

Well, in fact I don't have this problem with other amps/cabs. It seems to be a problem between the 5' Hartke tweeter on the Hartke 2.5 XL and the pasive Lindy pups.

Really is a sh.. the Hartke doesn't have a switch to desengage the tweeter or maybe an attenuator ...

Any idea about how to solve this problem ?

Thanks

So with the VLE and the VPF turned all the way down, and the EQ set flat, what happens?

It happens the same. In fact if I increase the VLE the noise decrease, because increase the VLE cuts more and more the high freqs.

But if I don't need the 'vintage' or 'nasal' sound of the VLE, and with all flat, the noise is there.

So it's not the way you have the amp set, and the VLE works the way it's supposed to. That's one thing out of the way.

IMO it's not the high freq driver; it doesn't actually boost anything. I have a 4.5xl and don't remember ever having experienced this problem.

If the pickups are too high and you are getting contact to the poles that's going to be a problem. You could try lowering the pickups all the way and bringing them back up gradually as you play. You could also simply roll off the tone control a bit. I have a couple of basses that are quite clacky with the tone wide open.

Goofy suggestion: try a different cable.

I think you need to shield the electronics.

Check your pm's

Yeah, perhaps I have to low a little more the bridge pickup. The problem is only with this 2.5 XL cab. With other amps/cabs equipped with compression driver tweeters (1'' or 2'') I haven't this problem. All that is confusing me.

The cable is in a good condition. I own several basses and the noise is present only with these Fralin pups and the 2.5 XL. The Bass with Fralin in another amp: no noise. The 2.5 XL with an active Bass: no noise.
