Noiseless 5 string pickups... Why magnets are in diferent height??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all!!!!

I have a Jazz bass DeLuxe with Noiseless 5 string pickups; they have the magnets at diferent heights, they came so when I bought the bass. Now I corrected the neck and they are closer to the strings, I know that the problem is solved screwing down the pickups, but I am curious if there is a way to regulate the magnet's height without damaging the pickup and sound!!!

Thanks for your opinions!!

They are probably staggered for a more even string response.

Does your bass have a very flat radius?

right; look at the frets; they have a curve to them, which means the string pattern does too. the pickup magnets are staggered to follow that curve, so each string is reasonably close to being the same distance from its magnet pole, and therefore having equal volume output.

Yes, you are right, the magnets increase its height from borders to center.

Does it have a relation with bridge height?? I don't remember but I believe all strings are in the same height at the bridge.... Do I have to adjust the bridge or it is not necesary?

Thanks!!!

what matters is how high the strings are from the frets. to make that consistent, the bridge saddles will also be higher in the middle than at the ends.

that's the question, isn't it?

check out the set-up stickys at the top of the page, but the basic rule is you want the strings as close as they can get to the frets and still sound good; that will be different for different people.

Thanks Walterw, actually I made all the changes to have the string at the closest position to strings. Now I need to adjust the magnets because some are touching the medium strings. Does anybody know how to adjust the magnets of a noiseless pickup?

Thanks!!!!
