Noisy JRetro on my Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently had a JRetro preamp installed into my Lakland Joe Osborn bass.

The tone is great, but I'm having some serious noise issues. There is a loud "pop" whenever I take my hand off of anything metal and then touch it again. There's also lots of noise while my hands are off the bass.

I'm assuming that this is due to grounding at the bridge. I've heard that if you ground this way, than the bass will make noise if you aren't touching it. But man, this is a LOT of noise.

I started playing around with the controls and I realized that if I turn the treble control all the way down (100% treble cut) than there is no more noise at all. Also, the treble control crackles and pops while I'm turning the knob.

Could there be something wrong with the grounding job or maybe the soldering on the Treble control that could cause this???

Any input is greatly appreciated.

This could be a grounding issue, maybe shielding the cavities with Copper Tape can help. Jazz Shielding Pictorial (Big Images Warning) look in that thread there's a tutorial in how to shield a bass. But if there's noise when you turn the treble knob maybe there's something wrong with the Jretro unit. I'd Change the unit.
