Noisy MEC preamp on a Warwick Crovette PL

Sign in to disble this ad
This is my first post and have a question for you.

My corvette pro-line '99 came with MEC passive ("dynamic correction") JJ pickups and a two band active MEC circuit (preamp) that runs w' one 9 volt batterie.

The thing is that it make's an electronic noise that's louder when i turn up the volume of the amp. It's not the amp because it doesn't have the noise without the bass connected at high volumes (i have a GK 1001rbII through a Schroeder 1212R cabinet so it can get loud!).

A local luthier says it's because the combination of passive pickups w' active electronics is naturaly noisy and recommends to change them. He suggested Bartolini for the pickups and Aguilar for preamp.

Is that the way to solve this?. Do those make a good match?
And last, will it improve the sound i get from the bass? that's important also

Thank you in advance for your answers

Most Warwick players agree that the stock preamp is noisy and bad. The MEC stock pickup is alright but thats personal prefernce if you like a different sound. But if you change the preamp only to something better like the ones you mention then your problem will solve.
