Noisy treble pot on my Spector?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently puchased a Spector legend 6 and it sounds terrific!! The treble control makes this LOUD constant noise kinda like chicken frying. Anyone who can assist on what I should do would be VERY appreciated, I love this bass but I need to be able to use my treble control, especialy for slap and solos. I just ordered an EMC BTC preamp for it and my question is; will this alleviate the problem?

The pot probably has some carbon deposits i it from lack of use. Try just giving it a good work out and I bet it clears up.

Plug in the bass and turn the amp up so you can hear the scratching. Then just take you pinky finger and rotate the hell out of the knob right where the scratching is. Many times the contactor will scrub the oxidation off on it's own. If this is working you will notice the scratching noise getting quieter and quieter as you work the knob. Many times the oxidation that is in the pot is there because they haven't been used much. So giving them a good healthy workout will sometimes clean them up.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it tonight before rehearsal. Hopefully the BTC pre will eliminate this as it comes with its own stacked knob layout.
