Non RWRP pair of pickups?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm under the impression that pairs of Jazz pickups are reverse wound reverse polarity to give them the humcanceling effect, correct? I was tipped off on an earlier thread to roll either bridge or neck off slightly, and the sound would "magically open up." I was blown away by this effect, and also surprised at what gets canceled with the hum.

Are there sets of pickups that are wound identically so that they don't humcancel? I know they might buzz like hell, but hey, so does a strat!

Thanks,
Tyler

Pretty much every custom pickup builder can do this for you.

The effect you are referring to, AFAIK, has little to do with having RWRP pickups. It's due to the fact that having both volumes up puts the pickups in parallel with no resistance between them, dropping the impedance.

So this would happen whether or not the pickups were RWRP?

Yes. Try a series/parallel switch (or push/pull pot) if you want a bigger sound with both pickups on full.

Yes ... some sets are that way.

Most aren't

Cool, thank you both so much for the help and clarification!
