Thinking about getting a set of the for my Gibson/Tobias Killer B 6 string. I love the way the bass plays, good low end and low mids, but the upper mids are lacking somewhat, and eq changes don't help much.Just trying to get a more even response all across the fretboard. And maybe a little more aggressive in the tone department. The bass the their Bartolini preamp and Bart pickups. Anybody have experience with these pickups?

I've always found that a preamp swap was usually a bigger leap than a pickup swap, especially moving to a 3-band from the extremely common 2-band pres that every manufacturer seems to use.

Might I recommend an Aguilar OBP-3 before you throw in the Nordys?

I've tried the Nordstrand DC5, and I would say it has a very "modern" sound but not very aggressive. It had a nice smooth midrange and a very clean fundamentals, but it definitely felt "refined" and the response was measured carefully. That said, it was a very nice pickup.

The Nordstrand "Big Splits" sounded more ballsy and aggressive to my ears. But either choice would probably give you more midrange character than your existing pickups.

Yes on both accounts. Aguilar OBP-3 is a pretty aggressive sounding preamp. Also, the Nordstrand dual coils are very even sounding and not aggressive at all. I'd start with the Aguilar pre. That may do the trick for you. Also give Brian at Bestbassgear.com a call and see what he has to say....or even give Nordstrand a call if you definitely would like their pickups. Ask them what they suggest.
