Nordie big singles in SR506?

Sign in to disble this ad
First off, has anyone done this?

I love the build quality and especially the neck of my SR506, but the tone is too modern for me. I'd really love to have a bass this good, but with some nice grindy pickups. It looks to me like pair of Nordie big singles would slide right in. Do you think that these pickups would sound good in an SR506 (wenge/ bubinga neck, mahogany body, high mass bridge). My inspiration for this is my fender jazz, which I've had for about two or three months now and just love the tone.

Also, I think I'd try to run them without the bart preamp, just remove it entirely. Can I do this? Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about pickups and wiring etc.

And please chime in with any suggestions you may have for other pickups that might drop right in and have some of that vintage mojo that I'm looking for. Thanks.

No one has done it, at least on here.

And you can run it completely passive. It'd be original, thats for sure. I say go for it!

String spacing is too close for the stock Nordies, you'd need custom ones.
