Nordstrand 4.2 review

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok I have had 3 pickups in the stingray over the years. The nordstrand is the best of both worlds, good highs like the stock pickup but the clarity of the bart on the lows. Well worth the $108 I spent on it. It does have better lows than the stock and misses the ultra highs of the stock as well... Best way to describe it, sounds like a lakland with a little bit more growl..
The stingray I have is an early 90's and the body is on the light side, this pickup makes it sound like a heavier body bass...

Anyways hope this helps since there are no reviews of the pickup on the site....

Nords are simple the best.

The 4.2 seems to be a very popular SR upgrade.
Ive done the same with my Ray34 and i also put Nordy's in my Lakland DJ5.

I'm dropping a 5.2 in a Ray35.
Curious on the results.

Hi Tony.

I would say its a bit more polite than the stock pup. To my ears (based on never having owned a SR before) it lost a bit of edge but gained body and a bit more in the low end.
It still sounded like a MM but warmer and less harsh.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but can this pickup be used without a preamp? I have an OLP that is passive and would the Nordstrand 4.2 work as a passive pickup?

more lows and less ultra highs..... so it sounds like stingray pickup with more windings?

Yes, it's a passive pickup.
