Hey fellas this is my first thread here on this site. I really
enjoy reading and learning about my craft on this site. Now
here's my FIRST thread question!!! Has anyone tried 70's wind
Nordstrand NJ4 pups? If so how do they sound? Are they an
authentic 70's thick barky tone? |

Speaking of which, didn't Nordstrand have a Sponsored Forum here a while back? What ever happened to that? |

| | | | I had a set installed in my MIA Maple / Ash jazz. They are great. More honk, more definition than OEM. |

| Essentially, it's just like the difference between Fender jazz pickups from the early '60s compared to those in '70s jazz basses. The same differences are carries over to the new "secret wind". |

For me, this really answered "the which one to buy" question. | Just to add my $.02 since since I have the NJs in 6 Jazzes (at this time) Kipaste is correct and its becuase how the mids are.
To me I use both the 60's and 70's winds and it all depends on the bass they are going in.
I think the 70's wind works better in duller sounding instrument unless your shooting for that clear so-to speak cut that can have a bit of shine to it.
In my Modulus VJs I'm using 60's wind and it works great with the graphite.
I have a swamp ash jazz that the body is on the light side and has more of a tubby lower mid thing going on with it...I put 70's wind in it and came to life.

My Warmoth J with a Korina body and Wenge neck/fb has a fairly thick midrange, especially the lower mids. I wouldn't call it "dull" at all, but a touch more "zing" would be nice. |

I think that would be a great compliment to the woods you are using. I heard of more then once guys changing to the 70's wind pickups in the woods of Warwicks (which have there one heavy mids) and have totally dug it.
I bet you would be totally stoked with it.

And some TBer out there will get these NJ4SVs for a nice price, which I must say are an amazing pickup. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
