Nordstrand/Aguilar combo on fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm working on a spec. for a Warmoth Gecko 5-string fretless bass. For pickups/electronics selection I'm leaning towards a pair of Nortstrand DCs (series wiring for each pup), running through an Aguilar OBP-3. Questions:

1. Does anyone think that's a fundamentally bad idea? (If so, why?)
2. I like an uncluttered surface so I want to stack as much as poss. I'm thinking stacked treble/bass, push-pull mid, and stacked vol/blend. (Oh, and one active/passive switch.) I know the EQ pot config is ok from the Aguilar website, but does anyone know if vol/blend on a stacked pot is ok? Or will vol and blend only work on two separate knobs?
3. I'm still keeping an open mind on the entire combination. Feel free to post alternative recommendations and/or positive/negative experiences with a config like the one I'm suggesting.

I can't answer your control questions, but I'd ask Nortstrand's advice there.

About the basic idea, I have a Valenti fretless 5 with Nordstrand Fatstacks and an OBP-3. I love it.
Very versatile and full of great tones. I have vol, blend, treble, middle, bass with the passive and tap push/pulls on vol, treb, mid, and bass.

I would encourage you to rethink the layout.

I have a custom-built bass and it has 5 knobs and a switch. That's not particularly clear but every devise gets used and stacked knobs are fiddly live. I have vol/blend/bass/mid/treble/Z-switch. I really much prefer one knob per function.
