Nordstrand/Audere for a modern sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read a lot on the nordstrand/audere combo for a jazz bass sound, but what about a "modern" sound? Something alond the lines of american made mt, peavey cirrus, ken smith? The nice top end with a midish growl?
I play urban gospel and r&b and am looking to put some ina custom bass....IF the tone is right.

I guess it would have to be Nords Big Splits with Audere.

If you want something with a more traditional J look I'd suggest the nj4sv or nj4se.

The main thing or quality which characterizes Audere preamps is its transparency or cleanness.

It adds no color to you sound but will give great EQ features.

Hope that helps.

I'll let you know how a set of Nordstrand NJ4 + Audere JZ3 preamp sounds in my jazz bass after I get it all installed. It should be good. I used to have a J-retro deluxe preamp + Nordstrand NJ4 in my last jazz bass and I expect it be relatively the same or better. I'm guessing a modern aggressive sounding jazz bass.

I would simply second this. The Audere is the most invisible preamp I have ever used. You must have a passive pickup that you are absolutely happy with in order to be happy with the Audere. I think that is what makes them attractive to users of PUs like Nordstand which already sound great.

Agree, Audere will do nothing to your tone that PUs haven't done.

You should try pickups first and then try Audere preamp.
