I'm thinking about replacing the SD Dual Coils in my Fodera against the Nordys .... thinking about the Big Singles....

what are your experiences with this Pups in generall - or maybe like changing from Dual Coils to the Singles like I'm planing to do...

Please let me know !

Thanks

it will change the voice of the instrument considerably. i had big splits in my fodera and i hated it matched with the pope pre. extremely bright. i was rolling off a ton of treble from both the 3 band and the tone knob. that and the coil placement sounded a bit yamaha trb'ish more than psuedo fender when the duals were split to the outside coils. i know garey here had big singles in his fodera 6 for a while before switching to aeros and i think i liked the tone.

carey makes great pickups, but for me the wide responsive sheen of those pickups didnt mate very well with the pope in a fodera. of course, if you dont like whats in there now, that might be exactly what youre looking for.

Thanks for your Input !!!

I mean over the sound of the Fodera hovers a dull and very mellow touch most of the time (of course the wood does it's part too here).... I guess the Dual Coils support that.... also they did the inner coils of each PU which I can't understand.... I tried to turn the Neck Pu about 180° and it helped a bit. maybe I should try that with the neck PU also.

So as a Single Coils fan I guess the Pus could brighten the whole thing up

do you have duncan or aero duals right now? i agree, the duncan duals are pretty dark (they were my favorite pickup in my old fodera). the aeros sat in between the duncan and the nordstrands on the full range scale. imo, id get a set of true singles made for your bass. if you have wood covers, it would be easy to get them placed inside the covers so that the coils are in a jazz bass'ish position.

I have Duncans in closed wood covers

I just turned both PUs 180° and now both Singlecoils are on the outer side - I feel a little step to the brighter side now

I think I'll play with that a bit and see what happens

thats weird that they put the tap on the inner coils. id understand a switch that allows inner and outer, but just inner seems odd.

with the closed wood covers, carey could make you a set of true singles that would fit in there perfect and theyll sound bigger than the duncans split. are doing this with your 4 or 5 string? if you ever did have something like that done and we're talking about your 5, i have a set of the plastic covers lying around for the duncan duals that you can have if you need them.

yes - we're talking about the the 5 Str. !

I was confused too , the Pickup position is closer than on my 4 Str. Emperor ( I made a big mistake when ordering the Imperial and thought that they have a standart PU position and that this "standart" position would be like on my Emperor....but it wasn't... they put the PUs more close together.... )

And also it came this way : when you turn to Singlecoilmode the neck coil of the Bridge Humbucker and the Bridge Coil of the Neck Humbucker were on. So there was hardly a difference in Sound changing from Humbucking to Singlecoilmode.

Today I turned bot PUs about 180° so that the outer coils are "on" ! It sounds better.

Thanks for your offer - I'll keep it in mind - also I think about if I would buy some Nordstrands that I would go with a Maple or sth. like this PU covers
