Nordstrand Big Singles - Sadowsky Humcancelling question

Sign in to disble this ad
Any significant difference with Nordstrand Big Singles vs Sadowsky Humcancelling I've seen some Vintage with the Nordstrand lately, just wondering if its worth to change mine, also are they the same size?

Thanks

Please clarify. Are you talking about Sad HCs (which are the size of good oldd jazz single coils) or Sad Soapbars (which are bigger)?

In any case I never tried a bass with Big Singles but I take it they sound like an "improved" J pickup but still a J pickup. If you're tallking about Sad HCs I'd think they would be close, but there are a lot opinions about Sad HCs' mid-scooped character which I find negligible. If you're talking about Sad Soapbars, they are a completely different beast and I don't think (again, never tried Big Singles) they'd sound anywhere near, apples and oranges.

The Big Singles (and Big Splits, Fat Stacks, etc., etc.) are all 'soapbar' sized pickups that would fit in the Sadowsky Modern but not the J's (without serious routing).

Nordstrand does make a very nice single coil J sized pickup that I've heard in a Sadowsky Metro, and it sounds great. Both the Sadowsky single coils (a version of the Seymour Duncan Antiquity J's) and the single coil Nordstrand J pickups will provide a little more definition in the mids and a warmer, less hi fi treble response versus the stock Sadowsky humcancelling J's IME.
