Question Nordstrand Big Splits

Sign in to disble this ad
I just ordered a set of these. Does anyone have any experience with them? Search didn't turn very much up on them. According to the description, they are:

"some of the biggest sounding pickup available anywhere. Full fat bottom, solid thick mids, and clean clear highs, these pickups have it all."

I was torn between these and a set of Q-tuners, but opted for these since my custom Knuckle Quake that I'm waiting for will eventually have Q-tuners in it.

I had these installed in my MTD Z bass last month. I characterize them as having a sound somewhere between a jazz pickup and a dual coal humbucker. You get the growl of the jazz sound without the overemphasized nasal quality. The pickups are very even across the spectrum of audible frequencies. I do not have to do any knob twiddling with my preamp to get quality tone. I love these pickups.

lowfreqman, woudl you say they are capable of "huge" and "clean" at the same time? That's really what I'm after, huge, fat and crystal clear.

Yes. They definitely have the huge sound down. They can be clean as well. I get my clean, fat sound by slightly favoring the neck pickup. Like I said they really don't accentuate any particular frequencies. They will let the natural qualities of your bass and preamp shine through.
