I dropped a 4 band Audere in my MTD Z5 with a set of DC 5's, and love it.

I have the AC Guitars filterbased preamp installed in my custom 5 string with Nordstrand DC's wired in series. Works great and I can dial in lots of different sounds with this preamp.

My best experience with Nordstrands DC are with John East U-Retro preamp

Sorry if this constitutes a threadjack.

I know the OP wants to add a preamp, and I think the suggested pre's are all great. That said, I was wondering...can you run the Nordstrand dual coils without an onboard preamp? I mean, I know you can, but do they really need a preamp to get a good sound out of them?

IMHO the Norstrands have a very good sound on their own. The preamp just adds seasoning to the flavor
