Nordstrand Dual Coils - Active or Passive?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had Big Singles in a couple of basses. One had a Bart NTMB preamp and I found that I either ran it with the EQ set flat or in passive mode. The second bass I put the BS's in was passive and never felt like I missed the active EQ - the BS's just sounded great on their own.

I have a set of Dual Coils coming and was wondering the opinion of those who have experience with the DC's - do these pickups behave better with or without a pre?

Like the Big Singles, they will perform well with either. I really like the DC's wired passive with series/paralel/single coil switching.

That's how I'm planning to wire them initially. I have the Series wound pickups, so I'm not sure how well the single/parallel modes will work... but it will provide a different tonal option, so I guess that's never a bad thing.

If they are wired series, they will sound best in series, but Parallel should sound pretty good as well.
