Nordstrand Dual Coils in a Precision bass...

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been having this idea of modding a Fender Pbass with a Nordy dual coil pickup. The woodwork involved is not the setbacks for me, but I'm hesitant on deciding between a Nordy wired in series vs. one wired in parallel.

What would be the sonic differences vis-a-vis a Pbass with this mod? And would there be any possible setbacks with the std volume/tone electronics?

Thanks

Andrew

Can you install a series-parallel switch? That's about all I can think of. Sorry man, hope it helped.. Best of luck!

I looked on their website, and the one thing that throws a wrench in that is they sell their pickups wired either in series or parallel. I get the differences, but I can't hear them (in my head) in how they would change the Precision's tone. Thanks for the help though, this site is usually more productive...

Well, I feel stupid to say it, but whatever happens when I push in my S-1 switching on my P kills the tone.

I think that puts them into series.. I think.

So, the opposite of it being pushed in! Excuse the ignorance!

The way I see it from reading at their site is that they are not prewired in series or parallel. One of the pickups is better for parallel because it has a little more windings to boost the output a bit since parallel yields a lower output. The other ones have a little less windings than the parallel version to lower the output and muddyness from it being wired in series.

Having the S-1 pushed in on the P switches the coils to parallel. Drops the volume, bit less bass and a touch more high end.

I vastly prefer my P in series but my G&L in parallel. Depends on the pickup I suppose!

That actually helps a lot, since I forgot about that whole S-1 system they had for awhile... Thanks!
