Nordstrand MM5.2 and NJ5 - Is this Possible?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm working on a custom project with a local luthier and I'm wanting to do a MM bridge/Jazz Neck 5 string. I'm wondering if you electronics gurus can tell me if this is possible using the Norstrand MM5.2 and NJ5:

I want to basically do a 3 way switch like my Stingray 5, but I want the three positions to be as follows:

1) MM Parallel (no jazz neck pickup)
2) Jazz Bridge Pickup and MM Single Coil mode
3) MM Series (no jazz neck pickup)

So, is it possible? Any inherent problems?

Yeah, can be done with ease.
Just gotta get someone to wire it.

My Valenti has the exact same pick-ups in it that you are going to use.
The MM pick-up is wired to a mini switch that is exactly the same as a SR5 switching- Series, single coil, parallel.

I have a pan knob to blend the two.
(Sadowsky pre-amp BTW with VTC).

Personally, I would go that route.
Switch on the MM and a pan between the two.
If you're ever down state this way (Oxford/ Lapeer area) hit me up and you can check it out.

I think I might take you up on that. I was thinking about the Sadowsky pre as well but wasn't sure how I'd feel about not having a mid knob.

Trust me, with the Sadowsky pre, you WON'T need a mid knob.
My Valenti is traditional tone woods, alder/rosewood with maple top.
I think the Sad pre really gives it a nice MM vibe.

PM me if you're down this way.

Your bass has an NJ5S in the neck and an MM5.4

Busted. I was wondering how you were panning back and forth on those pickups without single coil hum. I'd still like to hear those pickups with the Sadowsky pre, though.

I'd have to guess that wiring the pickups I'm looking at can't be all that much different than wiring up a single MM5.3 with the jazz in the neck taking the place of the dummy coil on the 5.3.
