I like to replace the stacked basslines in my vintage 74' jazz bass, to Nordstrand single coils. There are two versions the "basic" and the 70's wind which is more aggressive 70's like sound. I prefer the Jaco like bridge sound over the 70' type of sound. The question is, the "basic" version will fit in size and string spacing to my 74' Jazz Bass or the 60' jazz basses has different size and string spacing? |

Because of that bridge pickup sounds more "colder" compared to Jaco tone which is warmer. His 60s jazz bass has bridge pickup at it original position like ones made nowadays.
I tried Nj4s only and they are warm, '60s like, but I'm not sure regarding dimensions, I think that they remained same.

I recorded a clip of my 78' Jazz rosewood board with NJ4's 70's wind and I can assure you can get very close to the Jaco tone. Bear in mind that Jaco used an early 60's jazz bass with the closer 60's spacing, Alder body, rosewood board. At the end I went with fender 75' reissue pickups for the authentic 70's sound. Send me your email and I'll send you the audio clip. |

My 74' jazz was a good player deal, I bought refinished ( not professionally ), and the original pickups and electronics are missed. The price was like a new American Standard bass, but the sound a lot warmer. This bass has a different sound than the later over 76' jazz basses. |

F mark is designated to 5 string FENDER basses with different neck and bridge pickup, so there is only NJ5F which I've put on my American Deluxe Jazz. They are not standard as majority of other 5 string jazz bass type basses.
Please check: http://www.nordstrandpickups.com/bas...s/traditional/
As I know, 4 string jazz bass pickup dimensions did not changed during years.
