Nordstrand NJ4 Vs SD Antiquity II's

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,
I have the option here of either going for Nordstrand NJ4s for my Geddy Lee or Antiquity II's.

Both are vintage sounding, both have a full sound, and people swear by both pickups.

I am looking for a sound, that is
Punchy,
Has more low end than what the original GL pickups provide, but I dont want the low end to be boomy and just BASS BASS BASS I really want the low end to be there, to be felt, but to be focused at the same time.
Round and equal sounding over all strings and
Full sounding

The antiquity II's I can get locally whilst the Nordstrands I will have to get shipped from the US.

Its such a hard choice, I dont know what to pick.

Please help me decide.

Thanks
Manol

If you can get the Antiquities locally, go with them. They're tried and true and are excellent for the sound you want. I'm sure the Nordstrands sound great too. You can get a dozen different suggestions and all will sound good.

A lot will depend on your choice of strings and a proper setup.

Well I e-mailed the shop down here where I get my supplies/basses from and they quoted me AU$200 A PICKUP, so thats AU$400 if I want bridge and neck pickups.

I thought this was totally exhorbatant seeing as I can get a set of NJ4's from BlueberryHill bass for US$170 DELIVERED.

But regardless, I would still like to know people's experiences with both pickups, thanks.

I just replaced some Antiquity II's with the NJ4's.
IMO the Nordstrand's are punchier/tighter.
The Antiquity II's have great fullness and a softer attack.

A definite difference in the two, it depends what you are going for.
