Nordstrand NJ4SE Wiring (Ground Issue)

Sign in to disble this ad
Just installed the NJ4SE's on my MIM Fender Jazz and love them, but I don't know where to ground the two gray ground wires, so I'm getting a lot of ground noise.

Can someone tell me where the ground wires can be grounded on a standard jazz setup?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that if you're not running a preamp with an active blend section (Like an East J-retro or an Audere) then you can wire the provided ground wire up along with the negative pickup lead.

Nordstrand provides a separate ground wire and negative wire, but if you're not using one of the aforementioned preamps, just wire those together.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.. cause I might be.

Copious shielding and grounding info is available at this thread too.

This is correct. There is supposed to be a paper in the box explaining the extra gray wire. It can be missed if you don't know about it or look for it.

*What do you do if you are using the Nordys with an Audere preamp like I am planning?

In this case, the black and white wires from the pickup go to the Audere per the Audere's wiring instructions. Mike from Nordstrand told me that the black wires are common, and white are hot, so for the Audere 3ZB (the module preamp):

Nord. bridge white --> Audere black/white
Nord. neck white --> Audere blue/white
Nord. bridge and neck black (2 wires) --> Audere white/green

That's from memory, but I've reinstalled my Audere once already. Check your included documentation to be sure.

For one of the Audere J-plate preamps like the JZ3, I think you have some screw terminals to connect the pickups to, so no soldering there.

The Nordstrands grey wires will go to the cavity shielding.

I have the JZ3 plate style and was thinking that the gray wires for the cavity shield but wasn't sure. Thanks for the help.

I have these with the Audere as well. I put the greys to a ground screw that I put in the shielded control cavity. The bridge ground goes to that screw as well. Very quiet.
