I played a Mustang at Carey's NAMM booth with the new pickups, and it sounded like a real bass. The stock pickups are a bit thin. Mine are on order from Bass San Diego.

We've been a little behind on our orders lately, but I believe a batch of these went out yesterday.

I bought a set of these for my 1970 mustang bass.. According to my tech they do not fit.. Not even close. I was not able to return the pickups because they got scratched up during the attempted install. I was under the impression they would fit vintage & reissue basses without having to modify anything. I've read a lot of great things about these I was really looking forward to hearing them. Oh well..

Please contact us directly. We are still learning that there were a dizzying number of different size covers for these basses. If you're willing to send us your pickup, or covers, we'll be more than happy to make a pickup to fit your covers and then add it to our line up.

I apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing. Even if we can't work something out we'll at least figure out how you can return the pickups.

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my '75 Mustang and the NM4's wouldnt fit. They were returned (with my original pickup covers) and Nordstrand have kindly remade them to match. The only issue then was that the holes for the pickup mounting screws were too small, but I managed to just force that issue without resorting to working out what the thread size was and using a thread tap.

Now they're in - and they sound great. It's like a P bass now, sounds really big (for such a little bass)

Just installed an NM4 into my gf's Mustang bass RI and everything fit together perfectly.

I instantly liked the tone from the NM4 better than that of the (too hot) stock pickup.

Now I'm curious what an Aero pickup would sound like....hmmm.....

What is your impression of the NM4 pickups?

As compared to my description of the Aero's?

Regards,

I was wondering if it makes any difference to modify the Mustang pickup covers by taking the tops off the covers and exposing the pole pieces of the Nordy NM4's... I really like the look of the exposed pole pieces but I am not sure if that will effect the sound or create unwanted noise. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated before I take my Dremel to the tops of my Squier Mustang PU covers...

Somebody needs to make clear-cast pickup covers for these bad boys.

I ordered mine form Bass Club of Chicago for my Squier Bullet '83
They doesn't fit in the covers and the mounting holes are much smaller than the original but with carefull machining with the dremel the problem solved.I think Nordstrand should provide the covers and the screws with the pickups to protect their costumers from destroying the coils with d.i.y efforts.
The pickups sound warmer than the original and somehow louder.
Give them a try..
