Nordstrand NP4 pickup sound sample

Sign in to disble this ad
Just a quick sound sample of the Nordstrand NP4 Precision Bass pickup.

Bass - Mike Dirnt Sig Fender (Badass removed, vintage style bridge installed)

Strings - GHS Stainless Flats 45-105

Signal chain - Regular old guitar cable --- > Line 6 Toneport set to GK Bass head sim, flat EQ, Eden 4x10 cabinet sim, a bit of compression

Nothing fancy. I just thought that those looking into these pickups would like to get an idea about how they sound. I really like these pickups a lot. Beefy sounding, but still have great definition.

Nope, no chorus. Just what I listed as a recording chain.

But there's some distortion for sure.

I'd like to hear an NP4 with flats if anyone has or can make a recording.

More than likely it's your speakers.

A GK amp sim through a Eden 410 cab is a pretty clean chain.

I monitor using Event studio monitors and it is clean and fat here.

Nice tone, don't hear any distortion or chorus, just the bass line the opening bass line to Blood and Roses by the Smithereens.

It's a really good sounding pickup. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be so "beefy" sounding. I like it.

PS - I love that bass line !

Strange, I've played this clip through different softwares, monitors and headphones, still hear little distortion...

Apogee Duet
Logic Pro 9
Protools 8
QuickTime
iTunes
Mackie HR824
Genelec 8250A

Anyway, nice clip.

I played it back again and noticed the levels were pretty high so that may be why. I still didn't hear any distortion.

Weird. It's recorded clean but hot. Perhaps you're hearing the comp slur it a bit, "Motown style".

I just dropped one of these in my 2009 MIA P Bass, and it has completely transformed the tone of the instrument. I am crazy happy with it! So much so, that I loaded my Jazz with a set of NJ4 pickups from Nordstrand. I am a true believer. These guys make the best bass pickups I have heard thus far!

Ive got a NP5 in my Lakalnd DJ5 and think its very nice.
Handles the low B very well and has a nice growl to it.
Cant quite get a P thump out of it but that's more down to the Bass and position of the pup i expect.
